Canvas-Led Training


Who This Event is For

The Canvas-Led Training is for all course instructors, teaching assistants, and staff who support teaching and learning at Texas A&M University. This training led by Instructure, is designed to link best practices and innovative technology applications to the Canvas learning environment. Each session is intended to be inclusive of the status of where you might be in your migration to Canvas. We offer insights and ideas to meet you where you are, wherever you are, in preparing your Canvas migration.

New to Canvas Training


Training Overview

The 3-hour training is designed for faculty with little to no experience with Canvas. Training will be led by an experienced professional from Instructure in our Texas A&M University instance of Canvas. The training will walk you through exploring Canvas’ course navigation, best practices for building and organizing content in your course shell, and using Canvas gradebook features to filter grade information and save time. 


Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, course instructors will be able to:

  • Successfully navigate the Canvas environment.
  • Confidently create and curate content for student delivery.
  • Effectively utilize Canvas gradebook features to organize and filter student grade information.

Advanced Canvas Training

Training will be led by an experienced professional from Instructure in our Texas A&M University instance of Canvas. The training will walk you through best practices for leveraging module features, developing group assignments and utilizing appropriate assessment options to support student learning. 


Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, course instructors will be able to:

  • Successfully leverage modules to develop a strategic learning flow for students.
  • Confidently create and assign collaborative group work spaces.
  • Effectively utilize Canvas assessment features to monitor and moderate student learning.

Register for the training that fits your needs


Are you new to Canvas? This training is a great starting place that will walk you through exploring Canvas’ course navigation, best practices for building and organizing content in your course shell, and using Canvas Gradebook features to filter grade information and save time.

Verify access to Canvas and request course shells


Canvas Access

Navigate to canvas.tamu.edu and login using your NetID and password. If you are unable to login to Canvas, please inform us when signing up for the training and we will ensure your Canvas account is created ahead of the training session.

 

PRAC Shells

Check that you have access to a PRAC shell in Canvas. If you do not have a PRAC shell, please inform us when signing up for the training and we will ensure a PRAC shell is created in your Canvas account ahead of the training session


Assemble Course Materials for training


Prepare a Course Syllabus
A course syllabus is a great starting point for building your course in Canvas and will aid in the creation of your Gradebook and Assignments within Canvas.
 
Create Student Assessments
Gather the instructions to begin building the assignments for your course in the upcoming semester.

Identify Multimedia Resources
To begin building out your learning materials in the Rich Content Editor, have on hand pictures, videos, or weblinks.
 
Develop Quiz and Test Questions
Bring potential quiz questions to use as you interact with quizzes in Canvas during the training.
